About
No light entertainment
I am Martin Übleis, an Austrian writer. I work across narrative and dramatic forms: prose, screenwriting, theatre and serial stories for film, television and audio.
I am not interested in good or evil. I am interested in fiction that remains mercilessly real despite being constructed — and in characters who cannot be neatly excused, explained or classified.
I do not want to tell the audience who my characters are. I am interested in how the audience chooses to see them. Monster? Victim? Or simply human? The label often says as much about the person watching as it does about the figure being judged.
Writing
The form follows the pressure
I do not write in one fixed style. The language emerges from what the scene demands. A tender scene can be light. A violent scene has to become physical. An internal fracture needs a different form than an external escalation.
What remains is the attempt to build an experience: precise, cinematic and close enough to the characters that their fear, shame and violence do not feel described, but present.
Work
I am currently developing several forms in parallel
Film and Television
I am currently pitching multiple projects for film and television. A pilot script exists for one of my series projects.
Prose
I am working on a completed novella, several novel projects and short texts that either stand alone or emerge from larger story worlds.
Audio and Stage
One larger project is planned as an audio series. I am also working on a stage adaptation of an existing story.
Publications
Two of my short texts appeared in anthologies in 2025: An die Stimme in meinem Kopf in Mach’s gut and Projekt AEGIS in Die Zukunft unserer Gesellschaft.
